The programme in Media Management was the first of its kind in the UK and attracts students from across the world to study in a vibrant, highly motivated learning environment. The course prepares media managers to meet the challenges posed by a period of unprecedented change and increased competition in the media environment. For those with practical experience in the media industries the course provides a wider analytical perspective on the issues affecting their work. For recent graduates the course offers a rigorous foundation for a career in the media and cultural industries. Internationally oriented and comparative in scope, the Media Management programme covers areas including:

  • Media economics
  • Media policy and regulation
  • Media and intellectual property rights
  • Management and organization behaviour
  • Marketing communications
  • Accounting & finance
  • Media research

Graduates with the MSc have gone on to work in a variety of roles in broadcasting, audiovisual production, print and electronic publishing, advertising, online publishing and multimedia as well as other areas of the media and beyond.

Online Study

The programme is also available part-time as an online MSc/Dip, delivered in a flexible and purpose built learning environment. The online course is aimed at individuals who already work in the media, communications or cultural sector and would like to gain a wider analytical understanding of the contemporary media industries. Interdisciplinary in focus, the Department at Stirling has built up a range of expertise in marrying the disparate study of the media, culture, management, politics, economics, finance and law. The objective is to provide each student with both academic knowledge and critical understanding of how the media operate, what cultural questions are raised by digital technologies and globalisation and how media managers can deal with the rapid changes occurring in the industry.

Bursaries available for UK/EU and Overseas Students

The Department is offering tuition fees bursaries for students studying full-time on this programme. There are twelve bursaries available, worth £1,000 each for the academic year 2010-11.
