Jonathan Witchell Prize, 2011

This year's winner of the Jonathan Witchell Prize for Best Radio Feature is "The Touch of That Stone", a short feature on the Bastion, an ancient monument located within the Thistle Centre in Stirling, and which served as a guard tower built into the 16th century wall which surrounded the city.

The piece was produced as part of the third year module FMS9D6 Radio Feature Production, and the student producers are Sarah Caughey, Sophie Hanlon, Amy Jopling and Jeremy Watssman.

You can listen to the feature on the StirlingMedia YouTube Channel, which features the work of students who have studied on our programmes.

The memorial prize, donated by the family of former student Jonathan Witchell who died suddenly in 2007, rewards outstanding student work in the field of radio feature production, as well as providing inspiration for students wishing to pursue a career in broadcasting. Jonathan was a graduate of the MSc in Media Management in 1997. After graduating from Stirling Jonathan moved in to radio from where he started his BBC career at Radio Devon, before moving on to Radio Lincolnshire. He then joined BBC Radio Kent in 1997 where he worked for nearly a decade.
