About
John Izod is Professor of Screen Analysis and has taught in in the Department of Film, Media & Journalism since 1978.  He was Dean of the Faculty of Arts, 1995-98, is a Founding Fellow of the Institute of Contemporary Scotland, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts in 2000.
Research

He is the lead in a three-year research project on The Cinema Authorship of Lindsay Anderson which will run till autumn 2010, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

He is an author of several books, in addition to numerous articles. His books include:

  • Reading the Screen  (Longman 1984)
  • Hollywood and the Box Office, 1895-1986  (Macmillan 1988)
  • The Films of Nicolas Roeg (Macmillan 1992)
  • An Introduction to Television Documentary (Manchester University Press, 1997) with Richard Kilborn
  • Myth, Mind and the Screen: Understanding the Heroes of our Time (Cambridge University Press, 2001)
  • Screen, Culture and Psyche: A Post-Jungian Approach to Working with the Audience (Routledge, 2006).
